Weaver scope on Air Rifle?
I have heard that you may not be able to use a standard (older) Weaver scope on an air or pellet rifle.

Maybe if just air. Spring powered the different vibrations will shake it to death - even something that can stand a 50 BMG will fall victim to a spring powered air rifle. 0 -
What llama said, Reverse recoil from spring guns will knock the cross hairs and lenses out of some scopes. 0 -
LOOK at BEEMAN they make special air rifle scopes. Also most higher quality Red Dot sights will work and I like them better 0 -

Oh you "can" use one.
If you have a gas cylinder type air-rifle, or a pump-up kind of air rifle, and you can get your scope to mount OK, they'll work. Though typically conventional rifle scopes offer too much magnification and improper parallax for air rifle work.
The big problem comes if you put a regular rifle scope on a spring-piston type air rifle. Those have an unusual double-recoil snap. . .first an ordinary backwards recoil as the pistol moves forward within the gun, and the pellet exits the barrel. The problem is that when the piston ends its forward motion it slams hard into the receiver transmitting a sharp reverse (ie forward) recoil impulse to the rifle.
Ordinary rifle scopes (even really expensive ones) simply aren't designed to handle this sort of forward recoil impulse, and typically repeat firing will completely ruin them by shaking their guts out of alignment.
If you want a scope on your air rifle, the best thing to do is just to buy a scope designed specifically for air rifles. There are plenty of them out there, and they'll do the best job for this particular application.0 -
