Aguilla ammo.....
Specifically at this time, .22lr ammo.
Has anyone here used it and on a scale of 'A' to 'F' compared to Rem, Win, Federal, etc., w/'F' a fail, how does it rate with you?

shot a lot of aguilla ammo. NEVER a problem with any of it. still shoot it in my silencers. its about the only good thing that comes from mexico. 0 -
They make a whole spectrum of different ammo. I've personally used the 60 grain Snipers and the ultra high speed, Super Maximums and Intercepters.
The Snipers won't function reliably in some semi auto handguns. Super Maximums and Intercepters function OK in most semi auto handguns. but tend to foul badly. I always take a GI bore brush and AR tooth brush with me to the range. If they cause malfunctions, by getting the guns fouled.
With the problems of getting .22 ammo nowadays. I wouldn't hesitate in buying and using any of the above Aguila ammo, I could get my hands on.

Don't shoot Colibri or Super Colibri indoors without adequate ventilation. I was doing some indoor practicing in the past with the windows closed, using the Colibri's. Didn't want to spook the neighbors. Had to quit, got really bad headaches from the fumes.0 -
I like the colibris (20gn no powder loads) for a few things around the house.
The 38grn SSHP are pretty accurate in my bolt guns. The hi vel loads function fine in my Mk II or GSG 1911, but I'm a crap pistol shot so I'll refrain from commenting on their accuracy.0 -

I bought 2 50rd boxes at a small, local dealer at $10 each (ouchie) of Aguilla 40gr .22lr match ammo.
I've always been leery of foreign ammo. Always used Rem., Win., etc. except for the '57 Turkish 8mm Mauser I was given.
I'm giving them to a vendor (bread) of mine for use in a lever gun he just bought and can not find any ammo locally.
I'll be sure to remind him to clean his rifle thoroughly after he's shot them.0 -
For match ammo, that price is not out of line. 0 -

I have used Aguila Super Colibris, extensively, in several .22 rifles. I have had ZERO problems with it.0 -
I've shot most of the different types of .22 in their lineup at one point or another (eg colibri, super colibri, subsonic "sniper", regular, high velocity, super-max, and match) and never had any issues with any of it. I've even shot the purple box "Eley" match .22 ammo, that is actually rebranded Aguila. I'm pretty sure that one has been discontinued. Eley Tenex it was not but for the price it was pretty good.
Also shot their .45ACP (it was fine), 9mm luger (it was fine), and I think .38 special (can't remember now).
Obviously, each type of the .22 "specialty" ammo has its own issues (eg the colibri, SSSS, etc), but they all did what they were supposed to. In fact, I can't remember having even one a single dud round out of what must have amounted to at least 10 bricks of this stuff. . .which is more than I can say for many other companies ammo.
The Aguila is made in Mexico, yes, but its made with absolute state of the art tooling in a relatively new facility. I've also heard rumors that that the company has some sort of affiliation with Remington. Either Remington owns the company, is a partial owner, or helped set it up. Don't know if any of this is true, but it doesn't really matter either way, I don't think.
Bottom line, the ammo is perfectly fine, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if the price were right.

Each of these companies makes at least half a dozen types of .22 ammo. So if you're going to do the comparison, you have to do apples to apples and compare similar types of ammo (eg match vs match, HV vs HV), etc. Then you also have to compare pricing. So that's WAY beyond the scope of a short post like this.
At this point, 22 ammo of ANY kind is in such short supply that beggars can't be choosers. IMO the regular sorts of aguila are perfectly comparable in quality to the similar level regular sorts of American-made ammo like Federal, Winchester, etc. All else being equal, I'd rather be shooting the Aguila regular ammo, then say, the Remington bulk-pack, that's for sure.
Bottom line, this ammo is perfectly good and you shouldn't have any issues with it.0 -
Standard velocity 40 grain Aguila (blue box?) has always worked well for me. In everything from a JC Higgins 31, a Winchester 75 & "Browning" 52 and a whole lot of CZ bolt rifles. 0 -

I agree with the fouling. I find there is tremendous muzzle flash with the Super Maximums too when fired out of a handgun. I prefer (even at the higher price) CCI Stingers when it comes to any hyper-velocity rounds in a handgun.0 -

ive shot the super maximum 22 ammo before in a stock ruger 10/22. pretty accurate, loud, and very stinky. 0
