1885 Winchester high grade 22
Is the 1885 Winchester High grade 22 LR a Japan gun or one of the reintroduced 1885 guns made around 2000. I am talking about the engraved one.

All these modern made "1885s" are made by Miroku in Japan.
None are actually "reintroduced" to the original design or made in USA.0 -
Hawk, in looking at the 1885 there was a 1885 series made in 1999 to about 2002. It appears to me they actually remade some of the black powder 1885's as well. 0 -
I own and shoot one of the Browning brand 1885 BPCR rifles in .40-65. Also made in .45-70 and .45-90.
It has an American Badger barrel but the action was made by Miroku in Japan.
The similar looking 1885 Traditional Hunter in .38-55 and .45-70 has Miroku barrels, Japanese throughout.
A friend shoots one of the modern 1885 Low Wall .22s. Japanese.
Sometime before discontinuance in 2006, they changed the trademark to Winchester. They are all under the same parent company anyhow, owned by FN Herstal. And the guns are the same. I have shot my Browning 1885 BPCR alongside a Winchester 1885 BPCR and the only difference is the trademark and the shinier finish on the Winchester.
They superficially resemble the John Browning 1878 patent, Winchester Model of 1885 made 1885 - 1920 but are completely different inside.
And all made in Japan.0 -

Hawk, I forgot that actual closing of the Winchester company in 2007 had nothing to do with the fact that Winchesters were made in places besides the Winchester plant. As you say the 1999 1885 is not a remake but just another 1885. I was thinking if it was built before the company sold in 2007 it was still a Winchester made in the Winchester plant.
I had a HMR .17 that another person needed a lot more than I did. A pretty complicated gun inside as compared to my 38-40.0 -
The whole thing started with the Browning B78 in 1973.
Japanese then, Japanese now.
If you want a rifle faithful to the original John Browning - Winchester, there are some accurate reproductions at high prices.0 -
I have heard the rifles made in Japan are good quality,just not made here.I have a Japan made BL22 and I am very happy with it.
