I don't recall any rifle loads for #5. One of my favorite loads for cast bullets in a 222 is with #8. I have found that the occasional extra large flake can jam up a powder measure drop tube.

I have some old books and manuals that list some of the Al powders. What rifle cartridges did you have in mind?

    .270 would work too.

AL-5 is not an appropriate powder for rifle loads. It is a high energy powder for heavy shotgun field loads.

Al 5 is double base powder with a burn rate in the vicinity of Herco and HS-6. It is designed for heavy shotshell loads in 12 ga. The qualities that make it very good for shotshells, it's density and burn rate eliminate it for use in cartridges such as 270, 308 & 30-06. Even for reduced or cast bullets the loads would such a small proportion of the case volume that reliable ignition and a very steep pressure curve would lead to unsatisfactory results.
