Norinco sks in a russian stock
I bid on an interesting norinco sks. It is in a Russian laminate stock with the reinforcing bolt on the wrist. Well the buttstock has an "r " then what looks like an odd shaped "n " followed by an "S 5" Does anyone know what these stock markings are and /or what they mean? Any info would help as I sm very interested in this odd combination sks.

The Russians are not known for being talkative, especially about firearms that they manufactured. By the time their milsurps reached the US market, they had passed through many hands, & no one knew or carried about the variations.
Most SKS's were arsenal refinished, & they generally stamped the receiver SN on the stock. If they installed a used stock, they would X-out the old SN. Any other markings are likely inspectors markings. Funny looking letters are likely from the Cyrillic alphabet, which is why ATF required all SKS's be stamped with a new (Arabic) SN by the importer.
