1948 m44
Gentleman, I have the chance to buy a 1948 Russian m44. New in mummy wrap, all matching, stamped #s. I can put it on layaway, if I wanted. The asking price is $400. Is this too much for a rifle that is uncommonly found? Its not a tula or a '43 carbine, but still not common and it brand spank me new. Any comments are welcome and asap. Thank you

I'm kind of thinking the same thing. I did just pay $300 for a 1946 m44 in prestine condition and that was pushing it for me and I hate the thought of cleaning the cosmoline from it. I am able to make payments on it which is clouding my thoughts as to total cost. I may think a little harder on it. Id love to have the name of your wholesaler? Would they have a website, I could purchase from? 0 -

Turns out,the guy feels the rifle is more collectable therefore worth more because it is in mummy wrap. I told him collectable or not, the first thing whomever buys it will do is tear that mummy wrap off, clean the cosmoline and take it to the range or stick it in the safe. Even, if I got it for $300-350,I still feel its too much. Hell, you could tear that wrap off and the bore is dark w crappy rifling or it could be counterbored? Would it be worth it then? No. Id be pissed 0 -
Smart decision.
I've seen several "new in mummy wrap" guns that were either arsenal rebuilds, or beat up guns that someone was trying to pass off as "new". I think a truly new M44 would be worth a substantial premium, but I'd need to see for myself.
The only "mummy wrap" guns that sell for a premium are those with CMP documentation.
