.308 pistol scope
I'm looking for suggestions for a scope to put on a bolt-action Savage Striker pistol chambered in .308 Winchester and has a 16" barrel.
I currently do not have iron sights for it, and the reflex sight I have on it now is not doing it for me.
I want to take a whitetail with this pistol. I'd like something in a 2x - 4x power range, but more importantly I want something that will stand up to the recoil of a .308 Winchester round.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know you have thought this out but remember a scope on a pistol is different then on a rifle Eye relief and full field of vision is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT .That is why a shoulder stock has a advantage over trying to hold a pistol steady. A good red dot should be able to use on deer size game at 75 yards and closer. 0 -
I have a Redfield 2-6X on a 223 Contender that has been on it for over 20yrs and is still clear [;)] 0 -
I have an Encore in 308. I run the Burris 3-12x pistol scope on it. I would not be afraid to shoot a deer out to 300 yards. I also practice a lot, and can easily take down clay pigeons hanging on a nail at 200 yards off a good solid rest. Buss is is the BEST, handgun scope on the market...bar none. 0 -
I'd do a 2x if you are hand holding it. With a neck sling a 4x might be ok. 0 -
Burris
Edit: That is why I say Burris. I also live in Indiana and use a .270 encore sometimes. The Thompson scope that was on it when I bought it just wasn't good enough to get the range out of the pistol it was capable of. Off a rest it shoots 1 1/8' groups at 100 yards, with the right set up and the burris scope it has a lot of range.0 -

I do understand the differences. If it were up to me, I'd be using a long gun in .308.
Weird s it may sound, in my state of Indiana, I can use a .308 Winchester round in a pistol platform, but a rifle platform chambered for the same round is illegal.
I don't make the rules, I just try to make the best of them.0
