Ruger Bearcat
Hey guys. I have a Ruger Bearcat with the serial number 1774 but everything I've ready sort of confuses when I try and date it. Anyone know what year this piece was manufactured. It's definitely the older model. With such a low serial number...is it a first run? I can take pictures if needed but didn't know/think it was necessary.

I've found an old Ruger Bearcat - no medalian, no caliber marking. Odd serial number - S491. Any info? 0 -
During that time frame Ruger was very PRIVATE with dates on serial numbers I thought the first run had a letter before the serial I have L243 first one's Brass color trigger guard and aluminum FRAME . ALSO Plastic/Composite type grips sort of like COLT WOOD grips on Woodsman 0 -
1774 is a 1960 model.

Yeah I was there but the X threw me off. I didnt know if 1774 preceded the the first Alpha serial number or if the X serial numbers just stopped and they went back to strictly numbers leading into 1961.0 -

Actually the above posts are probably WRONG!!. According to the Reference of Ruger Firearms by Chad Hiddleson almost no Bearcats between sn 1002 - 1099 exist because they resembled the I series sn's. What you probably have is SN I 774 which was made in 1959. A factory letter at a cost of 10 bucks would confirm it. If it is really a 1774 is it a very rare gun and worth much more than typical 0 -

There is no such serial number as "I" 774 [:0]0 -
dcs needs to learn more about rugers. I 'm sure there is. The alpha bearcats go from 1-999 eg I001-I999. According to the books and currently known info , no Bearcats were produced with SN's from 1002-1999 inclusive except for 1130 which was a special for a childhood friend of bill ruger whose name was Russ Simms 0
