Winchester Model 74 1953
Came across a Winchester Model 74. Based on serial number it's from 1953. Found it to be loaded with 22 shorts. Info on barrel states MODEL 74 22L RIFLE. Serial number ends with an A. What does the A designate? I would venture to say it should use 22 long rifle and not the shorts that were in it, correct? Any ideas on value?
Well used, cracked stock, rusty tube, not at all pretty.

Two versions, one for Shorts, and one for Long Rifle. The A suffix in the serial number is a production change. 0 -
The gun should not function as an auto loader with .22 Shorts. They don't have enough force to fully cycle the bolt. 0
