Yes I have a 1909 straight bolt German Mauser. It's a long rifle and in very good condition. Has all the German markings for that Ara on it. Was wondering if anyone could estimate what it might be wroth. Any help I would be very grateful for. Thanks

It's not uncommon to see 7.65 Argentine re-chambered to 30-06.

The only thing I can think of that would fit is a 7.65mm simply rechambered in the original .311" barrel. These can shoot fairly well.0 -
I tend to agree with xxcross, that the Argentine would be the most likely candidate. It always possible though some wishful thinking optimist, wanted to see how accurate a 8mm Mauser rechambered to 30-06 was.
As HC noted, we need you to slug the barrel. Then get back to us with the results, before we can give you any meaningful advice.0 -
I bought a similar rifle some years back. The only possibility for accuracy is to load .311 bullets in 30/06 brass. The problem on mine was the chamber's neck area was not big enough to safely do this. I neck turned a few cases until they'd work just to test. I decided it was a fool's mission since I have numerous other 30/06 rifles and the chance some of this ammo would find it's way into a true .308 bore was too great. The action was rebarreled to 338/06. 0 -
it wouls help a lot to know which Mauser you have. it could be a 1909 rechambered to .30/06 or possibly a 8mm rechambered to 8mm/06. sluging the bore would tell more. 0 -
the 8mm-06 was a popular conversion after ww-2,a 3006 case necked up to 8mm. as 8mm ammo was very hard to get for a while after ww-2. i knew of quit a few 8mm-06,s made at that time. a rifle brought back from ww-2 could be sporterized and rechambered to 8mm-06 very cheaply for a very good deer rifle. according to garp. 0 -
Since the .308 slug "barely seems to catch the rifling", I would bet it's a 8mm. A .312 bore would still be a pretty snug fit for a .308 slug with .005 or so interference fit with the .303 dia. lands. And if it is a 8mm/06, that's a pretty good cartridge. 0
