Rem 12CS Date of Manufacture

Can anyone tell me that date of manufacture for a Remington Model 12CS with serial number 3899xx. It has the "RW" over the serial number, but does not have the date codes that started in 1921 - so I believe it's production date is prior to 1921.

  Found a post from someone owning a Remington stamped "model 12" with a serial number 390xxx. He states that Remington started stamping these models in 1917 - the year of his rifle. Mine has no model number, so it could be a 1916 or 1917 before they started stamping them.
