I just purchased a .357 with a 4 inch br. If I buy a 2 inch will it interchange? Are all dan wessons made to interchange bar.? As always thanks for your replies. 0 -
Dan Wesson revolvers are some of the highest quality and most accurate ever made. At least in .357 magnum. I have the pistol pak with the multiple barrels. The fit/finish and quality are excellent. [:)] I have never owned one in .44 0 -
There are something like 3 different generations of the Dan Wesson's. Made over 30 years. Probably be best for a informed answer, if you identified yours.
Give us all the markings and serial number range, to pin down who made it and when.

EDIT #1
Your good to go, it's a first generation DW, made in Monson MA. They were made there between 1969 & 1992. Likely to be in good shape internally. Always a chance with a older revolver, that it's seen a lot of use and abuse though. Have a competent gunsmith, check it for timing and lockup.0 -
From what I have read, when the company was reorganized and moved to a different location, there were some quality issues. My DW .22 has rough chambers and must be brushed out every three or four cylinder firings or extraction becomes difficult. But it is very accurate.
My .44 Mag. stainless does not have any problems and functions perfectly. I understand the .44 Mag's were popular with the silouette shooters; accurate and able to handle heavy loads.0 -

I never liked them but have seen a few that were good shooters. The only 44 DW I shot was POS. A lead spitter with serious timing issues. The fit and finish was poor to match the pistol.
If you got a good one, then I think you did just fine.
If you are not a pistol person, ask someone that is to look it over for you.0 -
I hunted with a stainless one for years. Never missed what I shot at. Always put it on paper before season and got about 2 1/2" at 100yds from it [^] 0 -
There's a Dan Wesson collectors Forum. Now that you own one you should sign up and log on. 0 -
Ya, join the forum. There are some real DW fanatics on there that will help a new DW owner. These gun were almost like the " AR" of revolvers; they can be customized ( grips, sights, multiple barrel lengths and styles, etc) by any owner in a matter of seconds.
I like my Monson DW .357 (2,4,6, and 8 in barrels) and my buddy has a Monson 6" .44 he will never part with either. $450 is not a bad deal if the gun is in good shape.0 -

There is some truth to some not being as good as other's, and as rufe points out, the first generations...Monson produced ones, are the best. In fact they are the preferred revolver in the revolver class of the IHMSA competition.
Since that Burris scope has a FOREVER warranty, and wears the best brand name in handscopes, PERIOD, you got yourself a GREAT deal. If you don't believe me, take a look on the auction side.
Those that tell you those are not good revolvers, obviously have not a clue of what they are talking about, and are blowing smoke out their backsides.

just bought a dan wesson 44mag revolver with a burris 4 power scope pretty good shape for 450.00 checking on the internet most people are saying these guns arent very good did i get taken
Yes. You were badly screwed.
But never fear, I'll take this disaster off your hands for only $400 [;)][}:)]
OK, seriously, Burris Scope ALONE is probably worth $120 (depending on age and condition).
That means you got an American made modular .44 magnum revolver for a net of $330. As mentioned above, quality of these did go downhill late in manufacturing, but assuming yours is in good shape and functions fine, you actually got a GREAT price on the combo.0
