Winchester 70 pre 64 barrel removal

I see my other topic is locked. Well I tried the chalk between the barrel and bushing including some more heat and still it wouldn't budge. I was thinking of backing out the barrel plug screws just high enough to grab on the bushing but I'm afraid of tearing off a piece and scoring the barrel. Any other ideas?

    I'm trying to remove a varmint barrel on my pre 64 Win 70 and it's not budging. I've got a heavy duty barrel vise and the proper action wrench. No matter how tight I make the vise the barrel slips. I tried some moderate heat with a prestolite plumbers torch and still no luck. I was thinking of putting some 400 grit paper between the barrel and bushing, but I'm afraid if the barrel slips the paper would mark it. I would appreciate any ideas. I remember once before having trouble with removing a barrel on a mauser 98

    I don't think plug screws are hardened like mount screws. I think Perry Shooter idea to epoxy it in the bushing is a good idea if you don't have rosin. Penetrating oil flooded inside the action for a few days.

    Years ago when I worked in a machine shop, stainless wasn't my favorite stuff to work with. Some grades were more difficult to machine then carbon steel. For want of a better word it was "stickier", wouldn't machine cleanly.

    Your working with a old stainless barrel, whose threads were probably a interference fit to the receiver in the first place. And probably mounted on the receiver, by some guy who weighed 300 lbs using a 8 foot pipe for leverage.

    Give PS's advice a try, using JB Weld. If that don't work. I wouldn't push your luck. If you screw up the receiver, your left with nothing but a expensive paperweight. Go the lath route. Chuck it up, and make a 1/16 deep cut with a parting tool just in front of the receiver.

    My action wrench enters just like a bolt. I have a large hex nut welded on the end. I can run it with an impact wrench. Just say the word and I will mail it to you.

    I can also send some rosin.
