Identify Front Sight
I need help identifying this front sight. I can't see any identifying marks on it. This measures about 1 1/4" long, 5/8" wide, 13/16" high, and the dovetail is 3/8". The aperture can be changed by removing two set screws, two springs, and two ball bearings and then pulling the aperture out to the top. The last picture shows the sight dissasembled. Any info as to manufacturer, what rifle(s) it fits, and value will be appreciated. Thanks, Gunswapper.

It's known as a Globe, front sight. Most all of the sight makers, like Lyman, Redfield etc. Made them. They were commonly used by target shooters.
Most of the commercially made ones are different then yours. As they have a threaded cap that secures the redicule inside the tubular body of the sight. If I had to guess? Yours appears to have been home made by a very skilled craftsman.
Check the size of the dovetail. That would determine if it's a standard size, or also custom made for a specific custom made barrel.0 -
You have a vintage Lyman site. It was a universal fit.
It is the model 25 which was used on savage and stevens guns and was fitted to just about anything of that era.0 -
just to note; you don't have to completely remove the screws/springs/balls to remove the apeture, it should just 'snap' in and out. 0 -
I do not see the Lyman #25 front sight in my copy of "Old Gunsights" by Nick Stroebel. Anyone got a write-up on it? What is the value? 0 -
