Colt Police Positive Revolver .22 WRF Ammo

I have acquired a very early COLT Police Positive in .22 WRF. The lovely wife just bought me a box of CCI in .22 WRF that states NOT FOR USE IN REVOLVERS. Their site states SOME REVOLVERS. Sooooo? I believe there is something about bore size being an issue on this, but I don't know the exact bore size of the early Colt Police Positive in .22 WRF or the exact size of the .22 WMR. Is this SAFE. I'm not the purdiest, but I wanna keep what I got.[:D]

  I do think this is CYA, I've fired modern WRF in a bunch of guns.
  But I'm gonna wimp out on this!

  My WAG is the disclaimer was written by CCI's lawyers. To keep folks from using it in older revolvers. Some of them date to the early 20th Century, and were fragile top breakers.
  
  Being 22 WRF is expensive, hard stuff to come by. Not loaded by a lot of ammo companies anymore. It's your call whether to use it in the Colt? My take is that a Colt Police Positive's cylinder, was made for .38 S & W cartridges. And plenty beefy enough for the .22 WRF.
  
  Take it to a competent gunsmith. To check timing, lock-up and test firing. If still in doubt.

  Thanks Rufe. I really figured this was something like that. I didn't think there was ever any difference in the .22 WRF or .22 WM bullet diameters. I was figuring on a bunch of old no name revolvers that were barely strong enough to safely pop out a 1910 cartridge caused this

  Cartridges of the World says the .22 WMR is an elongated and more powerful version of the old .22 WRF.

  I am not so sure that the 22WRF, didn't use a lead heeled bullet. You might want to pull a bullet out of the case of one of the newer rounds, and check it for diameter, verses your bore, and cylinder lead.
  
  Like rufe says, that the Police Positive was made for the larger 38's, and I don't forsee any problems, but checking the bore would be good info anyway.
