Bullet failed to eject w/manual operation
Got a walther p1 a while back and just a few minutes ago, since I have not yet fired it I wanted to see if it would chamber a round with the safety on. I am not sure the safety was on at this point but none the less it chambered a round. So I went to clear it but the round stayed in the chamber even after a few times. I removed the mag and open the breech and let the round fall out.
Is this normal with manual operation of the slide or is the ejector worn out?

The extractor is #17 in this schematic. Check it isn't broken, or sized up. The post war P 1's with the unreinforced aluminum frames, had a spotty reputation as far as reliability was concerned. If shot alot with the hot submachine gun ammo.

Did you let the slide "fly" forward, or did you ease it forward?

EDIT: Another thought: What ammo are you using? 9mm headspaces on the case mouth, so reloads must be resized correctly or the round may drop too far into the chamber.0 -
+1, I hand one of these P1s that had preservative gunk-ed up in the spring behind the extractor and was not putting enough tension on it, cleaned it out and it worked fine. Take a look at the extractor most of the time it is easy to spot one that has excessive ware.

tap it out carefully with a dowel, detail clean and see if it works at the range0 -

Try an EMPTY case and see if the extractor engages the rim. If not, examine the extractor to see what is wrong with it. Is the hook broken off? Is the extractor free to move? 0 -
After taking a close look at my P-1 can you guys believe it was sold to me by Classic Firearms WITHOUT an extractor?? It just totally does not and never had one in the gun.
I see the extractor in the parts photo that is up do I need to get the two screws right by part #17 as well?

Those aren't screws. #18 is the extractor plunger, and #19 is the extractor plunger spring. Both are required.
You might consider returning the pistol, if you can. It definitely had a extractor assembly, when the West German Army used it. Knowing the krauts, they sure wouldn't have issued one without a extractor assembly. Somebody deliberately removed it for some reason. Hopefully they didn't screw up the slide, or anything else is missing on it?
EDIT #1, Can't absolutely say that the extractors are the same between the different variations of the P 38/P 1. They were made over a time span of 40+ years, by many different manufacturers. If they send you one from W W II, you might have to do some fitting?0 -
I wrote classic arms just now. They do not have them in stock so I cannot exchange it and I don't want to get a refund I want a P-1
On the parts web site is says the parts need gun smithing, I assume this is just a disclaimer in case they really do? Should they generally just fit in with no problems?

Can anyone say if this spring is the extractor plunger spring I need? The sales people cannot confirm.
