Are you sure the prefix is "R" and not "B"?
The prefix letters on the Loewe rifles stopped at "O". Loewe marked rifles were all made before 1899, making them "Antiques", DWM marked rifles are "C&R".
    If that's a "B", it was made in 1892.

Thanks guys for the help. I found the same info on the net too. The serial number is positively an "R" (all matching including cleaning rod). 1897 or 98 maybe? Don't know enough about them, other than it looked like a good deal at the time!

At this late date, who knows? Probably utilizing old receivers from the back of the warehouse? The last Loewe's are "O" prefix guns from 1896, according to the data from the net. If your's is a "R" that means that there are Loewe's out their with "P" & "Q" prefix's. So the net data could be off conceivably by 20,000 rifles?

Did some more poking around locally and on the net and found an "R" serial number on a DWM receiver and a "P" serial number on a Loewe receiver. I am thinking that DWM used up the Loewe's and numbered them up with the rest until the they were used up.
