Chinese SKS 22cal Part II
OK sorry about that[:I] . So my question is Does anyone know if the Chinese SKS 22 cal i have has it's own magazine? It does use the 10/22 Ruger mag but i read a old thread on another forum that a guy had a magazine for SKS 22 but the pic will not show up(no one believed he had one as everyone said they were never made But he said it was)Well i have one,I posted on here because i found a Old thread on here of a guy saying there may have been a very few prototypes that made it in the country before the ban.I have posted this on 2 other forums i belong too,But no luck. thank you for your time taking my Question. mike

"386", is a known code for one of the Chinese factories that made conventional SKS's. The 3 numbers on their SKS's, are on the receiver stamped in a triangle format.
You have a very unique virtually unknown rifle. Lack of importers markings, standard factory markings, and serial number stamped on the metal receiver. Leads me to believe that it wasn't imported through normal commercial channels. Do you have any history on it, or know how it got to the US?
EDIT #1, If it was built on one of the SKS's imported during the 90's. It would have had importers markings, manufacturer and serial number. Since these markings are all on the receiver. Somebody would have had to manufacture a complete new receiver. They wouldn't have made a new buttplate with a 386 factory code and a "Made in China" marking, though.0 -
I'd like to see it stripped down with the internals laid out. Is the barrel sleeved?
Initially, with the limited photos, I'm guessing someone took a standard SKS (I remember when they were $60-$70 in the early 1990s) and made a 22 out of it. I doubt the Chinese would have manufactured a firearm that took Ruger 10/22 magazines, but someone could have likely done that during the 1994-2004 high-capacity magazine ban.
If it works, I'm sure it would be a fun rifle -- though, perhaps a bit heavy for a 22. I doubt, if it is just the work of a U.S. gunsmith, and nothing imported, it would have any significant collector's value.
Just my speculation with the limited information available. Post some photos of it stripped down -- particularly with some close ups of the internal parts and muzzle and chamber -- that will give some useful information.0 -

Alright here is some more pics.To answer your question the barrel is not lined,and it shoots just fine unless i try to shoot as fast as i can then it will have ftf sometimes ,I agree that taking a 10/22 mag is a good reason to not think it is legit. other then that from the crappy milling marks to the stock being made for the rifle as you can tell nothing is fill in on the stock,the bluing and the way it looks compared to my other sks and chinese ak's it is a Chinese production rifle there are not makings except for the #7 on the bolt,receiver ,trigger group and gas tube the numbers are scrubbed like on how the mak-90 were scrubbed then restamped,the bolt is aluminium and is a blowback no gas piston and u can see it is only one piece I bought this gun at a pawn shop on the 4th of july weekend i dont know were it came from. 0 -
I will start a SKS 22 part 3 or should i move this to the general forum .What would be the value of this SKS I am starting to think this maybe pretty rare, From the reply's from the 2 other forums i posted pics on I have been getting lots of people saying it was rumor that a 22 sks was imported and never seen until now.
Do not start Part 3 until we have finished with Part 2, which will happen at ten posts (or perhaps a few more). I corrected the photos so don't concern yourself with that for the time being.0 -

Start another topic if you want. This is getting really interesting. With the aluminum bolt, I don't know what to think? Don't see any stateside hobbyist making a .22 SKS from scratch, but stranger things have happened? The #7 is quite probably the serial number. Still should have importers markings on it somewhere? Sometimes they were very small and marked inconspicuously. Go over all the surfaces with a magnifying glass. If you find a importers marking, that will prove it's legit.0 -
I bought this at a pawn shop by my cabin and the only reason i even looked at it was because the tag said 22lr and it was 200.00.I have never seen one in 22lr.I have a ak hunter 386 milled and the barrel has these fine lines i think from the lath it was made on and this sks has the same lines as the ploytech ak hunter.the barrel is the same thickness as my other sks's ,and the trigger is the same as the other sks's.The bolt from my sks-m and normal sks will fit in the 22 with no issues.and the 22 bolt fits them also.It weighs the same as the others maybe a hair lighter and it is pretty accurate,I have shot 40 grain,36 and it feeds find unless i rapid fire it,That is why i believe it has it's own mag and like i said before I found a thread that a guy had a mag for it like a Ruger mag but is a little different. 0 -
Wow! Just goes to show that when you think you know about everything there is to know about SKS's, something NEW pops up! Never seen or heard of such a rifle! Been sitting here looking at all the photos trying to think of how this baby got here. I agree that it would really be strange if a gunsmith made a "oneoff" like this and he would be quite a guy. At first I thought it might be a "Sporter" that takes the AK mag that has been worked up, but the stock is not right. Got to do some more thinkin' and research!
