I just got lyman alaskan scope serial number 52720,and want to sell it,can you help me put a number on it fo ebay.Good shape

  Hello All,
  
  I've got a Lyman Alaskan(not all-weather)with a mid four digit serial number, fine crosshair/blue dot reticle, 2.5X in near 95% condition including leather covers in better than that. The W/E caps are stamped with matching six digit SN's on them. Any idea on build year, application or value? From what I've read, regular crosshair and post reticles were sniper items.   I have a Lyman Alaskan and A Lyman All-American; I don't recall seeing a serial number on either of them. It is quite possible that they were made for the military, since anything sold to the military would need to be numbered.

  The US military versions of the Lyman Alaskan were marked M81 or M82, depending upon the reticle (post or crosshairs). They were used on the 1903A4 & the M1D.
  
  Some commercial Alaskans were purchased by the US military. All that I have seen from CMP had a serial number. These were likely used only on the M1D.

  I "liberated" a Lyman Alaskan from 7th Div Major Items in Korea in '53-54..
  It had fine cross hairs.
  It was commercial and in an orange & black commercial box. I don't recall any US markings.
  We had M81,M82, Weaver 330s and infra red snooper scopes for Garands, A4 Springfields and Carbines.
  That straight Alaskan was the only one I came across.
  I preferred the tapered post and sunshade of the militarized Alaskans.

  I have 3 or 4 Alaskans; all have serial numbers and as far as I know, none are ex-military.
