Millet scopes

I don't know why but this name has popped into my head lately. My friends often ask me for advice on finding a Nightforce quality scope at a Tasco price. They ask about pretty much everything in between but I've never heard of Millet. What's the scoop? Decent, junk, or outstanding?

    I would look at the Redfield Revolution line. I have no experience with the Millet and have heard about 50/50 good/bad. That was on the internet so the value is less than a nickel worth of penny's.

    Millet scopes are an older mid to low end scope but the company primarily made iron sights. If you are looking for a decent mid price scope I would check out the Swift's series of scopes

    To be clear, I'm not in the market for a scope of any kind right now. I was just curious about the quality of the company and its products.

    Millet started out in Southern Calif back in the 80's, making replacement sights. Since then they have put their name on a bunch of other products such as magazines and scopes, actually manufactured by others.

    Specially with optics you get what you pay for. Even if they have the Millet name, chances are if the scopes are relatively inexpensive they come from China. You want a good high quality scope, it's not going to be one of the cheapies from China.

    This unfortunately is an impossibility. The quality of glass and the machining of the mechanical parts will always be better on the more expensive scopes. There are no corners to cut that won't result in a lesser product.

    I was curious as to why so many reviews about these scopes are so positive. I bought the 6-25x56mm LSR Tactical Long Range scope for a test. Virtually all of the reviews stated that the clarity and resolution was the best bar none.

    Well, these folks simply don't have the requirements or needs that the better shooters and competitors have. Their skill levels or ability to discriminate are lower so they find these lesser products to be suitable or even excellent at the level of their expertise. That's fine but these scopes are not anywhere near the quality of a Nightforce let alone a US Optics or S&B. The glass is O.K., the resolution is O.K. but the mechanics of the knobs and detents are poor. The scope I bought was off by 4" when I returned it to my zero after running it though several ranges out to 1,000 yards. This is unacceptable for any of the shooters I compete with.

    I think if you want something for a lower price and you don't expect to need the very best these scopes will be fine. Otherwise give them a pass and spend what it takes for the quality you need

    try a nikko sterling scope. very nice scope for the money. or a vortex scope .

    Your best bet for near NF quality at half the price is the Vortex Viper PST. Next in line at a lower price would be Sightron.

    The comparable Leupold would cost almost as much as the NF of which it clearly is not equal. I have used the Millet, and it in my eyes, is not much better than a Simmons.

    If you really want to search good glass, go to Eurooptic.com. They are a vendor on the auction side, and their sales staff, are not just salesmen, but trained experts in what their glass can actually do, and the advantage/disadvantage of one over the other.

    Thanks guys. Again, I'm not in the market for a scope. The feedback I'm getting on the millet quality is pretty much what I expected. I'll forward it along.
