V24 Mauser
Hey guy's I have an old Czech V24 8mm Mauser, I'm thinking about having it tapped so I can mount a scope to it in the future, but in the mean time, the little notch on the rear sight is so small, I can BARELY see the front sight through it I was thinking about possibly taking a very small file and deepening it a bit, but I just wanted to see if you guys have any other recommendations? Are there any aftermarket rear sights I could get for it that would improve the sight picture? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It won't hurt anything to file the rear sight slot. At the lowest setting, the rear sight is zeroed for a fairly long range so deepening the notch may put POI closer to where you want it anyway.
There used to be a peep sight sort of thing that replaced part of the rear sight but having the peep so far from the eye negated most of the advantage of using a peep.0 -

VZ24 have a good reputation. A needle file is the tool you are looking for. If you are drilling holes for mounts, I use 4 with the proper spacing to use 3. Most military bent bolts require more work to function with a scope.
I like a Lyman 48 on the side.
A highly modified or a replacement trigger is a good addition.
Lyman 323470 has always shot well in all my 8mm.

Some of the older Czech Mausers, if they are factory original and in Very Good condition have become quite collectible.
I wouldn't be doing any filing or drilling holes for a scope mount, until you have checked out the above.
Post quality photos here, or take it to somebody local who s a pro on the older military rifles.

B Square and several other manufacturers make a rear sight replacement scope base that fits right into the rear sight base. You will have to use a LER scope account scope is well forward on the rifle but the rig I have on a Swede M38 works quite well. MoJo makes a replacement aperture sight that fits into the original rear sight base of the rifle. The MoJo works well with the just the rear aperture but gives an even better sight picture if you also replace the original front sight with a thinner post. I have a GEW98, that was bubbaized in the past, with the MoJos on it that gives a much better sight picture overall. Either way you are not doing a D&T or filing on the rifle and can always return it to original.[:)][:D][:)] 0 -
You don't tell us much about your "old" Cz Mauser. Does it match? What kind of condition? As Rufe consels, before you "bubbaup" a possibly nice CZ Mauser, you might want to think about it. The minute it is tapped it is ruined for any possible collector value. The CZ made a fine rifle, every bit as good as their competitors (so nice that their weapons were put into the German inventory and were highly prized) so I would give it some thought. 0 -

Thanks for the input guys I really appreciate it! rufe-snow I'll take a couple of pictures today and post them. Overall the rifle is in great condition, the only slightly annoying thing is that it was electro stenciled on the bolt, but aside from that it's in great shape. I was thinking about refinishing just to give it a nice clean look but I haven't decided whether I'm going to or not. Anyways I'll post those pictures up and see what you guys think. 0 -

If you want it to retain max collectors value, don't refinish it.0 -
