    Usually don't start with #1 unless a special presentation or special order to prevent overcharging/collector frenzy.

    R U sure it is a ranch model??? Ranch models don't start till the 187 series

    added They can tell you the date of production and features but can't tell you if it's the first one produced in the 185 series; seems odd.

    I did but they can only tell you date of production, March 1986, and features. Nothing else.

    again are you sure it is a "ranch" model. If so why do you believe that? BTW it is probably not a ranch but a standard mini 14. Does it have a receiver cut for rings and were ruger rings on the gun
