30 cal Kimball
Does anyone have info on the Kimball 30 cal pistol? I heard it was unsafe and was taken off the market. I am trying to get a old man to give me a price on it but he is planning on giving it to his grandson who is leaving for college later this month.

Gunparts inc bought all parts and pistols when they went out of business. Semi auto pistol that shot 30 carbine ammo. .I seem to remember there were problems Mainly NOISE when shot but I don't think pistol blew up mainly function problems I think it had special chamber to slow down recoil 0 -
The Kimball had weak locking lugs. If they sheared off, the slide would come straight back at your face. 0 -
The Kimball supposedly had a delayed blowback mechanism. Annular rings were machined in the chamber. As the cartridge was fired the brass case expanded into the rings delaying extraction. Until the pressure was low enough to prevent failure of the brass.
The above didn't work in practical application. Because the slide in recoil, battered the steel vertical slide stop until failure. Because of this only something like 300 were made, during the 50's.
It's unfortunate the guy doesn't want to sell it to you. The least you can do is make sure the grandson understands not to shoot it. Potentially if he does, it could bring his college career to a premature end.0
