Marlin 1894 production
I am trying to do some searching for my dad since he ordered a Marlin 1894c in 38/357 from a sporting goods store 5 months ago...
Usually, I'd simply blame the fact that he hasn't gotten it on that gun/ammo craze but other stores and sites either don't have it listed or have ALL Marlin lever actions other than the 1895 listed as discontinued. The store associates said that Marlin was heavily backordered (and this was 2-3 months ago, as well) so I could maybe see an online retailer saying that particular model is unavailable with no backorder but, discontinued?
It goes right down to the Marlin site where you click on the link to order a gun. It takes you to galleryofguns.com which has exactly zero Marlin listings, period.
Has anybody heard anything about this? Preferably something recent? I've read all the rumors/conspiracy theories from 2010-2011 saying that they were closing up for good. (I know the main factory closed up and production was moved but that's a long ways from stopping production altogether.) If that happened, why is there absolutely nothing out there to say it?

I'd cancel the order and get one of the six on the auction side [;)]
Do a search for the newer Marlins here and you will see that the newer ones are not that good after Remington took over [B)]0 -

Same here, with a twist though - I'd cancel the order to buy a "real Marlin" and not one made by now our friends at Remington. Very disappointing what they're currently putting out today. I've handled a few and the slightly older Marlin 1894s are much better fit and finish.0 -

Well, I haven't gotten around to calling Marlin but I did send a question to Buffalo Arms about them having the 1894s in their catalog but listed as discontinued on the site. The response I got from a sales manager was that they really are discontinued and the printer was supposed to have removed them from the catalog. He ended with this gem: "As far as I know, Marlin has given no indication of producing that model at this time."
That says to me that Marlin (or Remington, in this case) is not making them but haven't really told the stores that they are no longer in production. In short: the backorder is so bad simply because the supply has dried up.
I realize I'm probably preachin' to the choir but, what is Marlin if they are not making leverguns?? I know they used to make shotguns and they do make bolt-actions and the odd .22 but they had somewhat of a corner on the lever-action market once Winchester stopped making their own...even more so since the introduction of the Leverevolution stuff.
As for Remington? Nothing like buying a company with a veritable stranglehold on a good-sized niche market and then giving that market away with absolutely no fight, huh? I'm not a business, economics or marketing guy but that strikes me as completely idiotic...0 -
Totally agree with the other posters, find a JM stamped Marlin. You will be much happier with it, the Remlins don't measure up to the original JM stamped. 0 -
Ask around at the Marlinownersdotcom web site...they have a special section for 1894c owners and can let you know whatever you need about Marlin and maybe where you can find on older JM 1894c for sale....but they are pricy to say the least. 0
