Cannot load, I give up. id where it slips over barrel approx .600, id in frt .265, od .750, male dovetail .250....Any idea??What and value??0 -
It's a muzzle brake of some kind, but I've never seen one that mounted with a dovetail and screws like that. What's the ID on the exit end? 0 -
My WAG is that it is a homemade muzzle brake. It's mounted to the rifle, by using the existing bayonet mount female dovetail.
It's interesting in this respect. As muzzle brakes are usually internally threaded, for mounting. Likely whoever made it, didn't want to alter the rifle by threading the muzzle.
EDIT #1, With a ID of .265 it's not clear which military rifle it was intended for? There has to be sufficient clearance between the OD of the bullet, and ID of the muzzle brake, for safety purposes. Because it is evidently home made, perhaps it was never completed as far as final ID was concerned?
EDIT #2, Considering the ID of the hole in the end of the break. Got to agree with Harley, it's for a 22, not a military rifle. Trying to figure which one has a female dovetail of the correct size is the problem. John Stimpson on his High Standard site, might be able to identify it if it is for a H-S.0 -

That looks like a sight apperture & light-gathering hood. ...or it could be a mount for a laser sight. Are there any markings on it?0 -

Me thinks you have a muzzle mounted piston from a 6mm old military
gun. Will have to look thru my old photos for "one-off" and little used gun ideals for self loading rifles of years gone by.0 -
BigLoop22, you're thinking of the old Dockendorf front sights, that thought crossed my mind too. But that is definitely a muzzle brake. 0 -
First of all I'd like to thank for the help with uploading the pics....my puter is 2000XP, running IE6...old and i'm Polish to top it off with lack of patience.!! No there are no markings..but part is very well made, looks commercial and has allen head set screws. I've never seen a barrel with a slotted dovetail...I thought i saw someone selling High Standard barrel attatchments similar but pics were really lacking...I can't believe I who can't even load pics have stumped the experts!!!!
