Look for the transfer bar between the hammer and the firing pin. I think if it has the new model improvements you can load it by opening the gate.

Old style loads like a SAA, place hammer in half cock and rotate cylinder.
New style just open loading gate and cylinder will rotate

The New style upgrade, to the Old Model, does not let you load/unload by just opening the loading gate. You still have to pull the hammer back into "half cock" posistion.

Like had been stated, if it has been upgraded, there will be a transfer bar between the hammer and frame, and the hammer will not have a flat cace, but will be notches for the transfer bar.

Also, if it has not been changed over, it is only safe to carry with five loaded chamber's, and the hammer down on an empty chamber.

Some years back Ruger had an offer to receive the 3 screw guns, factory change out the various parts involved but not altering the frame, then returning the gun and the removed parts, which could be replaced if desired for collectability, with a factory letter regarding the changeover, to the owner. You might check for the removed parts and the letter.
