1858 Remington
I am looking at a 1858 Remington revolver
I have a couple of questions about the gun and wonder if any of you can help
First the serial # is 539XX what approx. year is that
Second I am looking for a pistol to represent what both the North and South would have used in the Civil War I know the North used the Remington a lot but did the South use them that much

Although the patent date of 1858 should be on the revolver. One in your serial range would be known as the "New Model Army". Many thousands were made between 1863 and 1875. To be a military issue revolver it would have to have the government inspectors markings, on the grip and other places.
The southerners used any firearm they could get their hands on. With over 100,000 bought by the US. No doubt many fell into there hands, and were used by confederate forces.0
