    Back then it was push them fast and have them stay togther longer, you just can't push a 'soft' .44 bullet very fast. the 'hard' bullets would fragment and impart more energy to the steel targets. keep in mind the Smith & Wesson m-29 was considered a 'wimp' gun because you could not load it as hot as a Ruger or Dan wesson or T.C. Contender. The ram targets weight 70 lbs. and 'dings' don't count.
