Where to get gun refinished?
I have my mom's Remington 572 Fieldmaster that I would like to get redone to look like new. The issue is this: The metal is all aluminum with a steel insert in the barrel. I don't know what the finish of the barrel is called (maybe annodized??) but it is a reddish/copper color with the receiver being a lighter color than the barrel.
Does anyone know where I could send it to be professionally redone, both metal and wood?
My older siblings said my mom had complained to my dad that his 22 was heavy, so he went to a small grocery store and had them order her this 22 as it is extremely lightweight. Only one like this I have ever seen.

Your 572, in question, is a very special edition. There were not many made. Any refinish, would severely detract from the collector value, however, I'm sure, by the sounds of it, that the sentimental value is much greater.
I am not sure of any houses that can perform this type of anodizing, specicically, but I am also sure they are out there. The cost to have this done will far outweigh any potential value it might have. In otherwords, you would never get your investment back out of it, other than holding it close to your heart.

I'd enjoy it as it is. I'm not sure aluminum will hold to heavy use. My 121 is all milled steel, I sort of remember shooting it as far back as the mid 60's.0 -
Sounds like you have the Buckskin Tan model, faded and worn with age.
I do not know any place that could reproduce the original colors by anodizing.
Cerakote spray n bake finish is available in many different colors, it could probably be made close.0 -
We generally Cerakote aluminum parts, but can recommend Southwest Metal Finishing as an FFL anodizing shop. We have not done single piece orders with them, but they do a good job on job lots of billet receivers.

tsr1965 - you are correct, I really don't care about the value of it. I would just like to have it redone simply because it was Mom's. I also know, financially wise, I could never recoup the cost of the refinish, but that is not the issue. It will never voluntarily leave my possession until the good Lord takes me away. 0 -
Find someone that does KG-Gunkote or ceracoat, or order the stuff from Brownell,s and do it yourself. 0 -
Call Jeff Sternad at Falcon Gun Coat. 1-406-892-2507. He does a beautiful job. You can pick from lots of different colors. I like the one that matches Leupold's scope color the best myself. 0
