Scoping an M44???

I am thinking about putting a scope on my M44 as my aging eyes seem to allow me to shoot better with optics. I have researched all kinds and am leaning toward the Advanced Rifle system. Rock Solid seems to have a decent set up, but requires drilling and tapping the receiver which I hope to avoid. I plan on getting the bent bolt welded on as opposed to the ATI bolt. I do not want the scout set up and hope to avoid a LER scope.

Any input much appreciated.

  I did a project like this last year. Ati mount, and used there bolt handel after reblueing and threading the barrel for a break. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but the precision of the scope was no match for the sloppy heavy trigger. All of a sudden the gun i easily shot claybirds at 50 yards with was shooting 6" groups! If you put a scope on it, I highly recomend a timney trigger....i felt so discusted I sold the setup and never looked back. If I had more patience and shot my buddy's first ( which had a timney) I wouldve spent the $75 on the trigger long before mounting a scope.

  Edit: Sorry, didn't read your bit about not wanting a "scout" setup. All I can say is that if you want a conventional optical scope, so far as I know, there is no way to get that without a drill and tap and bending the bolt handle. IIWY, I'd pick the rocksolid mount over the ATI one.
  
  Again, if I had to do it again I'd keep the rear sight mount, but go with with a dot-type sight instead of the LER pistol scope. Eye relief on dot sights is unlimited, and the dot is both intuitive to use and easy to see.
  
  Here's mine.
  
  Its an S&K Scopes mount, which replaces the rear sight and is absolutely rock-solid. No drilling or tapping.
  
  Actual scope is a Leupold 2x pistol scope in "scout" position. Its good enough for shots out to 100 yards, which is all I'd really want out of this rig anyway.
  
  Can't say a bad thing about the mount and it was worth every penny of the $80 spent, but if I had to do it again, I'd get the Weaver version instead of the proprietary S&K ring version. Nothing wrong with the S&K rings, just that the Weaver mount would give me a bit more flexibility in terms of putting on a dot or reflex type sight (which I think I'd prefer to the 2x optical).
  
  I agree with PBking on the trigger here. My 91/30, curiously enough, actually has a relatively crisp light trigger pull. . .don't know how that happened, but it does. Unfortunately, the bore also looks like a sewer pipe!
  
  The bore on my M44 is shiny and crisp. . .unfortunately, the trigger pull is probably over 10lbs with tons of creep, making it difficult to shoot well. One of these days, I'm going to either pony up for the drop in match trigger, or get a real trigger job done.
