Old Military Brass
The brass from the collection I bought seems to be mostly Military 30-06,308, & 38 special. Can I determine anything from the markings ? Is there a chart of markings that I can refer to. Lastly I plan to try and sell some of this brass. If I list it as old Military brass would people want the brass cleaned or would they generally prefer the patina ? Thanks Vince

You can find most of the common headstamp (makers) codes here:

The 2 digit number at the bottom is the year of manufacture.
The most common for US military are
FA Frankfort Arsenal
LC Lake City Arsenal
SL Salt Lake Arsenal
Den Denver Arsenal
TW Twin Cities Arsnal
EC and/ ECS Evansville Chrysler and/or Evansville Chrysler Sunbeam (WW-2 only, most common on steel case 45acp, somewhat less common on steel case 30 Carbine)0 -
I have sold a couple hundred thousand pcs on line over the years. A clean piece of brass with sorted head stamps will get you the most money. It doesn't need to be ultra shiny, but enough that it can be loaded with no further cleaning. Sorting out the "bad" one's and junk always makes the buyer happy.
Now that being said, "if" I were to consider my time at about $10/hr to do the cleaning and sorting I would make more selling it "as is".
So it depends on if you like to sort while watching TV or you just want fast cash.
I'm sure everyone will be interested in this brass.0 -
