mauser action screws question
Hi, I have a WWII German mauser that was sportorized in the 50's. The action screws each have a small set like or locking screw that cuts into the action screw. I am guessing it is to lock in the action screw when set. Am I correct on this? Do I need them. Thank you.

While I applaud straightforward, concise answers in some cases, sometimes a few more words can be helpful.[:D]
These smaller diameter screws do retain the original action screw in place because that's what Paul Mauser believed should be the design of a battle rifle. He didn't take chances with one backing out under the duress of battle. Do they have to be in place? No, not really but the rifle will look complete with them filling in their spots in the bottom metal. Some folks have welded those holes then ground them flat and polished for a finish in order to eliminate them.

as above, you don't realy need them.........but they add a touch of class. also note the front and rear screws are different. 0
