I have somebody in mind that can give you the run down on your Model 1892. Stand by for his response.

My friend Michael is trying to get registered on the GB forums so that he can discuss this Model 1892 with you. In the meantime, he has asked what the complete (full) serial number is. With it, we can determine exactly when this Model 1892 was manufactured.

I have a bunch of pictures, too. Just don't know how to post them.

Close up clear photos of the other markings may be helpful. What caliber is it?

Since this tread is about to be locked, I'll try to sneak in a response. Michael is surveying Model 92/1892's, so he has seen a number of rifles so marked and I have one that is similar. Your Model 1892 is in a serial number range of rifles that either had no model designation or were marked with the model designation right below the hammer, not on the tang. Rifles so marked will be marked from left to right, just below the hammer slot:

    MOD.
    1892

From what I understand from Michael's survey, at one point about 50% of the rifles he'd surveyed with that particular tang marking didn't have the model designation behind the hammer like mine does.

Hope this helps until Michael can register and make his comments referencing this thread.
