Ruger No1 stock
I'm trying to replace the stock on my Ruger No1, And Ruger won't sell one outright. Anybody know why

From what I do understand, Ruger is WAAAAY behind on their production. While they have never been one to sell very many, if any parts, other than accessories, they are clearly behind the 8-ball. I would imagine that their #1 line, would be one of their most distant priorities, as well.
That said, with the #1, being a high end line, I am sure they like to have those stocks hand fitted. There are some #1 stocks listed on the auction side as well. I would also imagine that you might be able to find one at Fajen, or Boyds too. Numerich gunparts, appears to be all SOLD OUT.

When I called them they said I would have to send the gun to them. They did send me a recoil pad free of charge 0 -
Over the years I've had countless customers have accuracy problems with their Ruger No. 1 rifles. In many, many cases it turned out that it was related to the fit of the stock. Yes, they are behind, but this may be part of the problem too. Back in the 1980s - '90s Ruger was taking a beating because everyone was complaining that the No. 1 wasn't living up to accuracy expectations. The forearm is held on basically at two points--the screw that threats into the barrel and then back where the forearm fits the receiver. As I remember there were at least two problems. First, some rifles allowed folks to torque that screw down so tight that it actually put a bind on the barrel that affected the accuracy. Second, the fit of some forearms was so tight that when you tightened the screw, that pushed the wood against the receiver so hard that it put a bind on the barrel. If I remember correctly, there were even a couple of gunsmiths who specialized in "accurizing" No.1s. At the time there were lots of folks buying forearms (and stocks so that they matched) there were folks making them! Several of the stock companies that were still in business then also made them. Many of the ones I remember were from outstanding pieces of wood. You might be able to find one of these or a factory original floating around out there that somebody discarded because they didn't understand the importance of getting that forearm fit properly. I did check the auction side, none were factory wood originals. I also checked out Boyd and Fajen and neither listed No1's 0 -
