Brass is available in either or. Wondering pros and cons of either. Price and availability factors excluded, why would you prefer one or the other?

the 'bench rest' guys like the s.r. size, for every day use I'd use l.r. 0 -
OK. The 308 in question is being built as a bench rest rifle. F class stock, Jewell 1.5oz trigger, heavy shilen barrel, Blueprinted action, etc. but I Dont know why sr would be an option. Can anyone elaborate on the "why"? 0 -
Lapua added SR cases in 308. Circa 2009/10.
Here's their reasoning:
"Tests Reveal Better ES and SD with Small Primers
Initial tests of the small primer pocket .308 by U.S. Palma team members have been very promising. The small primer pocket case seems to have advantages in both accuracy and the ability to handle high-pressure loads. However, the primary improvement found with the smaller primer is reduced ES and SD. Palma Team members have found that, with almost every brand of primer tested (small vs. large), the smaller version has yielded reduced Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation. This pays dividends in 1000-yard shooting. Also, some testers believe that small primers are more consistent and require less sorting - and that there are more varieties of small primers that seem to work really well in the .308 case. Moreover, the small primer types are more uniform, from lot to lot, than are large primers, according to some testers."

Not to be a wisenheimer or nothing, but it seems like you are going to have the ideal test bed to find out if there is a difference.

each box is $100.00 I dont mind paying $200 for good brass if I need it. But Dont want a box ending up useless because I like the other better. Nor do I want the hassle of keeping it separated. I'd like to stick with one or the other for simplicity's sake, but Dont know which one to go with. I already have the correct primers on hand for either of them. Just kinda trying to weigh my options here.0 -
Bruno's will sell them by the piece, $.75 each.
Ten each would let you know which to stock up on.
Or maybe somebody on the LR or BR board has some statistics.0 -

I use CCI BR2's Lapua Brass, 0 -
yep, lapua brass is where its at. just trying to decide between br2's and br4's[:)] 0 -
Get 50 or 100 of each [B)]
test , and determine which you like best as far as accuracy [8)]
Then have a " Give away " with the ones you don't want [:p]
