Model of 1917 Rifle

I am attempting to restore an M1917 Eddystone rifle as best I can to military issued condition. I have most all the original parts I need. My question is: is there supposed to be a middle barrel band retaining spring like on the M1903?

  Don't see one, it appears that the sling swivel screw retains the band.

  No spring, but there should be a hole in the stock just ahead of the band for a retaining pin.
