Browning A5
A friend of mine has a 1972 Browning A5 12 gauge with a vented rib, he says it was made in Belgium. It is new in the box has never been shot and assembled only twice. He is the original owner and has kept it in storage disassembled ever since he got it.What would it be worth? Thanks!

Hi to all
I have a browning a5 light 20 Jap,grade 1, Vent rib, with a 26" skeet tube that is still in plastic wrappings in the original box. It seems to be new and was purchased in 1980. Can you tell me value as i am helping a widow of a close friend.

If there is any possibility That the "C" is actually a "G"? It would date it to 1956, and be Belgian made. 0 -
I guess it could be a G instead of C. I was just told that it was a C by the guy selling it. He has no idea if it is Belgium or not.

Around here, sticking Belgium barrels on Jap receivers is a common trick at gunshows. Watch out. 0 -
It's easy to tell if the reciever is belgian or a jap made. On the back of the reciever hump, the belgian guns have a small engraving while the jap guns don't and are plain in that area. 0 -
also note; during early ww2 the Browning a-5 was made in the U.S. by Remington (or Savage?).

The easyest way to tell is the front trigger guard screw. if it is a true 'browning' it will have threads, if it is just a headed pin held in by the 'lock' screw it is an american 'browning'0 -

To some extent, yes. They are a modified version of the Remington 11. Aside from the magazine cutoff and divided ejector the A5 also had different timing than the 11. This timing difference is the reason the 11 has a recoil cushion whereas the A5 doesn't.
There are other differences that I don't recall offhand. The conversation I had with the fellow at Browning was 15+ years ago.[:I]0
