HELP ID THIS 1873!!!!
This 1873 is in 44-40 and has no marks what so ever anywhere on it. I have no idea what it is or if it is even a winchester. When I got it the fire pin was broke and I bought a 1873 fire pin off numrich and it fit right in and shoots great. But am stumped as to why it has no stamps or markings anywhere on the entire gun? Please help if you can. Thanks Eric.

"Stamp" means a number, letter, or symbol.
I can see see a "44" & something else on the brass part where you load cartridges. We need a direct close-up of those stamps.
There should be a stamp on the tang, the part of the receiver that is on the top, & farthest to the back.

No marks/stamps on upper tang or lower tang or on barrel or at back of barrel or WP in circle nowhere but it does have 44 Cal stamped on brass lifter. I forgot about that. It has the dog leg toggles inside and the real 1873 winchester fire pin fit in and fires perfect. Just dont know what the hell it is. No marks on sides of tang with stock off either. Your guess is as good as mine. I have since put a barrel band on the nose and the lever lock. the front of the forarm was broke and I had a tenneon and put it on also till I find another forarm like this one. Also the W checkering I have never seen before on any other winchersters, unless this was just put on here? Thanks Eric. 0 -
Eric,
What you have is a Model 1873 "Frankenchester". There is not much of it that is original beyond the receiver frame. Please post pictures showing the upper tang and the lower tang. The barrel and mag tube do not look like Winchester parts. The butt stock is not original, nor is the butt plate. The rear sight on the barrel is not a Winchester part. Also, slide the mortise cover so that it is closed, and take a picture of the rail that it slides on.0 -
Will get pics posted as soon as I can. It will be late tonight or tomorrow evening late. Thanks again for all your help. Eric. 0 -
The slide rail is part of the receiver. It is not a separate part. There is a "stop" screw on the front of dust cover. Hope this helps till pics come. 0 -

That indicates that it is a Third Model.0
