Spilled Powder - Reloading

I've been using IMR 4198 for reloading in smaller capacity 22 caliber centerfire cartridges for about 40 years. It's always worked very well for me in various 222 Remington, 223 Remington and similar capacity cases. One thing I don't like is the inevitable powder spill that occurs when the long 4198 powder grains get log jammed in the 22 caliber case neck using a powder dispenser. I use RCBS or Lyman and unlike the clear larger caliber drop tubes, the one for the 22s is solid steel - so I can't see if the powder gets backed up.

Any suggestions? Does anyone sell a clear screw in adapter for 22 caliber cases?

I see RCBS has a new "quick change" system. I'm thinking that the Uniflow adapter with a 22 drop tube would work, yes?

  There's always BL-C2. Maybe incorporating a sharp tap to the tube side into the routine. Other than that it would seem that someone's clear tube must be "modifiable".
  I use 4198 in my .222 Sako and it is a hard combination to beat.

  I have a Uniflow powder dispenser, and I have botht he old large and small, clear drop tubes, and I have got the new quick change one that works even better. I might suggest you give the newer one a whirl.

  It is still rough throwing a charge of extruded powder, especially into 22 caliber cases. For the most part of my reloading for the 223 or 5.56 sized rounds, I use w-w 748, but have started switching to thet new Hodgdons CFE 223. If I am running the R-15, and 62 grain Barnes TSX in the 223, I use my RCBS Powder Pro scale and trickler combo...fairly fast and accurate, but you still have to use a funnel.

  Thanks Tim. After poking around a bit I think that's the route I'm going to take. Seems much easier all around, just a few parts to upgrade.

  Yesterday, I had an FTF in a Chief and a Luger.
  Another shooter had two FTF's from factory PMC 223 ammo.
  A clear drop tube makes sense and so does a range rod and mallet should
  a bullet leave the case.
