Winchester 94 stock repair
Hello folks.
I just bought a Win 94 and
there is an ~ 1/8 gap between the
receiver and the wood .It looks like
someone took a dull table knife to it.
Below the tang ,on the sides only.
Is there any filler I can mix with stain
and fill the gap.

Nothing short of replacing the stock with a properly fitting piece is going to fix your problem.0 -
without seeing it... i would get some wood glue and surgical tubing. spread the crack a little, insert the glue and wrap for 24 hrs. 0 -
Thanks Bert,where can I get an original
stock? I imagine I'd have to replace the
forearm as well for a matching set?
Sounds expensive,prolly just call

Finding a replacement stock that is in good condition and fits properly is extremely difficult, and there are no sources... you just have to get real lucky and find one. Your only source is to buy a "donor" gun that has decent wood, but poor steel, and swap the stocks. Personally, I would just make it a "shooter".0 -

This winter I'm gonna set the receiver back an 1/8.
This gun as you know has a flat spring for
the hammer. I fired a few shots and then I took the
stock off to see what I had in store for me.
The flat spring was just hanging there,
not tied down to the lower "fork".
How could this fire with that spring not
doing it's job? Unless it came undone on my last
shot. Odd.0 -

That's a helluva gap! No gap at the rear of the upper and lower tangs?
I was going to suggest some glass bedding compound, then mix some walnut sawdust with clear epoxy on top of it. I did that on an old Stevens trying to salvage the stock. It looked like a military arsenal repair after it was stained and finished. It wasn't pretty, but functional. Boyds has some pretty nice straight grain walnut stocks.[;)][:)]0 -
For what it is worth, Boyds makes a semi-inlet replacement for about $54. Might be worth it for anice shooter. 0 -
The gunk on the peep site is tape residue.
The gap opp side is a bit wider ,about an 1/8
