Yep, post office is the cheapest way, going thru your FFL dealer.

    It depends.

My local dealers charge $50-60 to ship a handgun. For me, I find that it's faster & cheaper to ship from Fedex Office. Any Fedex Office will accept any firearm, & the rate is the official Fedex rate.

EDIT: FedEx requires that handguns go Next Day Air, which includes Next Day Airsaver. Large dealers & distributors sometimes negotiate contracts that allow them to ship 2nd Day Air, not an option for us common folk.

Yes, but the FFL dealer has to send it to another FFL dealer. USPS does not accept handguns unless they're shipped to a dealer or manufacturer. Shipments to a C&R are not allowed.

    Thanks mmyers

but will Fedex accept a handgun 2nd day air from me a civillian ie not 01 FFL?

    Thanks Spider 7115

But I always thought USPS would only accept a handgun for shipment from an 01 FFL for shipment to an 01 FFL; for me as a 'civilian' I do not think I can mail a handgun even though it will go to an 01 FFL

If your local dealer has reasonable transfer and shipping charges, it may be more cost effective to ship thru him. If you ship yourself, thru fedex or ups, you need to ship overnight and that will cost you close to $90!
If your local FFL dealer charges $25 for the transfer plus shipping, you can get it shipped for under $50.00. I am not recommending this, but many people will ship a firearm via fedex or ups and just ship it ground, using the don't ask, don't tell policy. They list the item as "machine parts" to circumvent the carriers draconian regulations.

I thought that's what I said above. Yes, 01 to 01 or manufacturer if shipping a handgun via USPS.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Spider I understand now what you said - I guess I am a little thick[:I]
Local FFL has told me he would ship it for me USPS for $35. to an FFL when he receives the receiving FFL's license copy[:D]
