Winchester 94 Flat Band -- Why?
Does anyone know the reason why some Winchester model 94 carbines were made with the flat front band? It seems we used to read that the reason was the equipment the rounded bands were made on was needed for the WWII war effort, so that may have made a bit of sense. Now we read that the flat band guns were made just after the war in the 1946 - 1948 time frame. So the WWII reason is out the window. The flat bands may have been slightly less expensive to make, but if so, why did Winchester go back to the rounded band? And, why was the rear band always rounded? Was the flat band inferior in some way? Just curious.

I have not yet discovered the reason why Winchester used the flat front barrel bands, but it most definitely did not have anything to do with WW II production efforts.
Structurally and mechanically, there are no advantages or disadvantages between the two types of bands.
Good questions, but I am afraid there are no simple answers.0
