I would keep your Hi Standard. There is little collector interest in the 59/559/659 Smiths and they are cumbersome in the hand as a defensive pistol. Yours will have greater potential for increase in value.

As second generation Hi-Cap S & W's go, the all steel ones like the 559 you're inquiring about are the least common. Most folks prefered the either the stainless 659's or the alloy 459's.

Since they were only made for a limited time during the 80's, not many of them around.

Because of this the trade doesn't appear to be unfair, from a collectors standpoint.

Personally I agree with Fuelie though, much rather have the H-D then the Smith.

If the guy with the Smith would prefer to have the High Standard, that ought to give you a clue!

I like my Smith's. That being said, keep the High Standard.

Well, I'd also keep the High Standard (which I prefer as a "shooter", and think has better appreciation potential), but I don't think its a "crazy" trade.

If you really like the Smith and don't care much for the HS, its not unreasonable.

Keep the High Standard. Better gun and more collectable.

Moneywise, right now it's about an even trade.

I personally feel the High Standard HD's are a little undervalued at this point, and for a collector or just plain value it's going to grow more.

However, your situation may differ. You might want a hi-power gun vs. a .22? Do you need it now?

If you wanted a 559 or something like it, I would save my pennies and not part with the High Standard.
