I'm no expert but the Marlin has been around a long time for a reason. I think both would serve well for a survival truck type gun.

They are both great little rifles, but if I had to choose, it would be the Ruger. However, keep in mind that the Ruger 10/22 takedown, while maintaining the 10/22 bloodline, cannot be accessorized, like the standard 10/22's, specifically with stocks.

    EDIT 1

I stand corrected. There are a ton of new stocks popping up for the 10/22 takedown! Not sure how easy it would be to replace the takedown barrel system, with the standard type, though.

They make after aftermarket stocks for the takedown.

I was unaware of any aftermarket stocks for the Marlin...what companies make synthetic stocks for the Papoose?

I have the Marlin Papoose in the blued version. My opinion it resembles

the Marlin model 60 receiver with a barrel sticking out. The sights are

adequate and it's very lightweight for it's purpose. Mainly used as a

survival type .22 rifle that can be backpacked around. The hard part

was getting the barrel nut tight and without scratching the nut. The

wrench would always slip off and scratch the nut. It's accuracy was

acceptable out to 50 yards....it was a step up from a .22 pistol.

I have no experience with the take-down 10/22 but my experience

does include the Browning take down .22 which I liked immensely but

in my younger days sold it, which I regret as the new cost is not

what I care to pay out.

    good luck, Thor

mine loosens up too..maybe a little black silicone on threads...shoots Ok...just a little light to hold steady...rather have a takedown that stores in the stock..protected ...all in one
