Winchester Mod 12 loading question
When loading my Win model 12 pump shotgun, the shells do not lock into the magazine tube. The only thing that holds that first shell in place is it pushes back against the carrier plate. Is that the way it's supposed to be?

The shell will rest against the carrier assembly until it's chambered,
that shell will enter the chamber after firing a round and the shell stop on the magazine
tube will hold the shells in the mag tube until that next shell is fully
chambered. After the shell is locked in the chamber the shell stop
will release the next shell in the magazine tube and it will lodge
against the carrier assembly.
I've been hunting with model 12's for 39 years
good luck Thor
Your gun appears to function correctly, if it's doing what I just
described.0 -
Be very deliberant when you put the first shell in. Push it in 1/2" beyond where you think it should seat. Do the same thing with the following shells as well. If this doesn't solve the problem I'd take it to a smith. 0
