Kel-Tec PF-9 is this normal?
I've only fired the gun a half dozen times. During this outing this casing split about half way around, and had to be pushed out of the chamber with a dowel. Upon seeing how much of the round was exposed, I thought maybe it had ruptured because it was not supported, but upon second thought it occurred to me that the beveled recess on the base of all automatic pistol cartridges is unsupported. This is Winchester white box ammo. Is this likely to be just a defective round? Or, is the gun not chambering the round properly, and therefore unsafe?
The gun has a lifetime warranty, but I'd rather not take it in if this is not a problem.

I would try different Ammo and see what happens.
Winchester told me a few years ago that if I was having problems with their Ammo...Go buy something else! [:0][V]0 -
From your photo the extractor doesn't appear to be correctly mounted in the slide. It should engage the rim of the cartridge giving it some support, with the slide all the way forward in what is called "battery" position.
It almost appears the front portion of the extractor is missing? Perhaps when the cartridge head failed, it took the forward portion of the extractor off, with it?0 -

+1 looks like the extractor is broken or not installed correctly. Maybe the extractor spring broke or launched into orbit?0 -

Thanks for the advice, gentlemen. From looking at a pdf of the parts diagram, it appears that the extractor is missing. It may have never been installed--if that's possible. The gun is on it's way back to the distributor. It sounds like they will probably just send a new one. 0 -
