Win. Model 70 Mag Spring
I have a 1964 Model 70 in .225 Win. Cal. with a broken Magazine spring . I'm thinking these springs and mag box , might be unique to the .225 Win. the mag box is tapered length ways in the front and the follower is riveted to the spring ! I have checked GunPartsCorp and Wisners , neither lists anything for the .225 Win. ! Any help in locating one of these puppys would be greatly appriciated !

You might consider breaking out the Dremel using carbide burrs. Remove the old rivets by removing their heads. See if the follower will function using a 22-250 or 220 Swift follower spring.
Otherwise getting a original follower assembly for a 64 Model 70 in 225 Win is going to be a bear. The 225 came and went pretty quickly. Win dropped it like a hot potato, when it didn't sell.0 -
I have a 70 in .225. It is the only post-64 70 I have so I don't have one to compare it to. I do, however, have a 670 in .243. I disassembled the 670 (the 670's do not have floor plates) to get at the magazine spring and follower. I slid out the spring and follower from the 70 and compared them--the follower is indeed different. But the springs are identical!! If I were in your fix, I would try to get a M70 (or 670) spring/follower assembly for a .243 or .308. Since you have the follower for the .225, I would remove the rivets and swap the springs. You may even be able to re-use one of the rivets. If not, I'm sure you could farmer-engineer a rivet that will work. Good luck! 0 -
I think Winchester only used the riveted spring on the M70 from 1964 to 1968; they might be kind of scarce now. 0 -
This spring is only 2 1/8" long . The mag box has fillers , front and back . Do one of you gentlemen have a short action spring to measure . If they are the same length , I'll snag one of those ! Everything is listed , either pre 64 or Post 64 , this gun is a 64 , so which side of the fence does this one come down on ? Thanks guys !
