Remington Model 31 Question?
Did the Remington Model 31 shotgun have a banded barrel? I know that the earlier Model 870's had a banded barrel. Something just did not look right about this shotgun.

I think my Rem 29 had a band as the barrel came off with the magazine tube. I'd look but I gave my uncle's shotgun to my nephew.0 -
Charlie,
You are correct, I have a Remington 29 setting here ready for pictures and to be listed on the auction side this weekend. It has a band on the barrel that is part of the take down system.

I'm not sure what you mean by a banded barrel. I dragged my 16 ga. out of the safe and checked it. It has a lug on the barrel that attaches to the magazine tube similar to but more complicated than the Ithaca 37. The 31 seems to me to be over-designed. There's an interrupted threaded sleeve in the receiver that accepts the barrel with a wear take-up feature similar to the Winchester 12 and 97. I see little reason for it since it's not a true take-down; only the barrel is removed. IIRC, the 29 is very much like the model 10 0 -
I have a mod.31 that is a mil.model 1942,its a takedown and has a factory cutts on it.no barrel band.tks.hedge[:D] 0
