Browning Takedown .22LR
I have a Belgium Browning takedown .22LR semi-auto rifle (Grade II). The only serial number I can find is 86697, and is located on the underside of the barrel about an inch from the tip of the forearm.
The gun is in excellent condition, and in the original Browning case, which came with the gun. It has a metallic receiver with engravings of animals on both sides of the receiver. The barrel is blued. The initials "RR" appear on the right top side of the receiver, at about the midway point.
I have looked on the internet for help on the date of manufacture, but all information seems to indicate a letter should precede the number to indicate long or short rifle???
Can someone help with the date of manufacture, and what the current value of the gun and case? Thanks for any and all help.

Need quality photos for accurate identification and valuation. There is a "STICKY", that gives instructions for posting photos.
Likely your rifle was made in the 50's, prior to Browning adding the date to the serial number.
You can break it down to pre or post 1956 by the location of the loading port on the stock. Top loaders predate 1956. Most common in the States are the ones found with the loading port on the right side of the stock. If your is on the right side it would date it prior to 1958.0 -
I have one with the serial number on the barrel made in 1962. Your gun is probably around the same vintage 0 -
According to the information I have, serial number 86697 would have been made in 1960. Range for 1960 is from 68501 to 90500.
In 1961, the date, "1" is followed by the letter "T", or "E" for the caliber code + rest of the number.0 -
The RR is most likely the engraver's initials, which would likely be those of R. Risack. As for what it might be worth on the market, you should be able to do some online searching, GB included, for a rifle like yours, and use the 95% to 98% factors for "excellent condition" and add a premium for 99% or 100% should it apply. You should be able to also get an idea of what the gun case would bring as well. Or, post up some quality photos and let the folks here help you with that end too. 0
