The screws are for windage adjustment, the half moon shaped knurled pieces on both sides are for the quick detach claw mounts.

    My reference lists a 7 X 64 Brenneke cartridge or a 7 X64R Brenneke for a rimmed cartridge.

    There isn't a listing for a 7mm Brenneke, or for a plain 7 X 64, only for the 7 X 64 Brenneke.

Just to be sure the rifle doesn't fit a rimmed case you can check the chamber to see if there is a recessed area for the rim or not.

Bullet diameter for the 7 X 64mm Brenneke is .284

The ammunition is still available from Remington, Sellier & Bellot, and empty cases from Hornady.

good luck on your auction, Thor

I probably stated my question poorly.

How do I get the scope out of the rings

The "rings" are probably silver-soldered to the scope tube. These mount systems were custom built to the individual rifle and shooter and no provision was contemplated for a change out.

Alois Mayer is either a Austrian gunsmith or retailer. Oberwart is a village in Austria. Presumably, where Mayer has his business.

The proof marks are from the Ferlach, Austria proof facility. It appears that 1966, is date of proof.

Although the rifle & scope appears to be in excellent condition, the quality of the engraving appears to be poor to me. Quite possibly the engraving was done by some amateur engraver after it left Mayer's business. I just can't see some Austrian gunsmith who built a rifle of that apparent quality letting it out of his shop with that engraving.

Thanks I wasn't going to replace the scope it's fine and crystal clear. I was just curious as I never really had a soldered claw mount before

I dunno, I have seen a lot of engraved European guns drawing Internet Oohs and Aahs that I though were of journeyman quality if not apprentice. As Greener said, 50 shillings worth of engraving will dress up a 50 guinea gun.
And you are not going to be studying your pride and joy with blown up pictures or a magnifying glass. I bet it looks fine in person.

claw mounts are hand fitted to be able to remove and reattach scope with out losing ZERO &X64 is almost the same as 280 Remington as well as 7X65R being almost the same but with a Rimmed Cartridge case those are mainly for Break open Cape Guns Or drillings . Looks like you have a high grade custom Mauser many made by German gunsmiths after WW II for us. Officers serving in Germany
